Drug Rehab
Drug rehab has become as common these days as the nightly news. It seems that everyone is going to, or has been in drug rehab for one problem or another. We have heard a barrage of stories about celebrities entering drug rehab multiple times following DUI arrests and other embarrassing legal issues.
Unfortunately, the message these runs in drug rehab sends is not quite a realistic one for the general public who does not have access to millions of dollars at the drop of a hat. The truth of the matter is that drug rehab is something that should be taken very seriously and not used as a display of remorse after being caught behaving badly due to addiction. The purpose of drug rehab is to show addicts the path to recovery and arm them with the tools needed for continued sobriety in the outside world, after drug rehab has been completed. Drug rehab is absolutely not intended to “cure” anyone of their addiction and entering into drug rehab should be done with realistic expectations. The way we hear about drug rehab on the news with the various celebrities is not realistic as many of these individuals get into trouble, go to rehab for 30 days, and come out and drink and party again as if nothing ever happened. As fabulous as this scenario may seem to be, it is just not real. Drug rehab is not a vacation, it is not a solution to problems. Drug rehab should only be used as a tool to grasp recovery and change life for the better. Any individual who attends an addiction rehab and later returns to the same friends, places and situations from prior to rehab, nothing has been gained
Going to drug rehab does not suddenly make things better unless the message and tools offered by the rehab are taken to heart and practiced in the real world to maintain sobriety. This is why it is so important to really understand what drug rehab is and what to realistically expect from it. Recovery from addiction is a long road and it takes a lot of work on the addicts’ behalf. No matter how great or poor the quality of a drug rehab may be, the key to success always lies in the hands of the individual attempting to be sober. As with anything else, the results will be based on the effort and commitment put into it.
